LSAC GPA Calculator
This LSAC GPA calculator, for law school applicants (LSAC CAS), converts grades to LSAC's scale (A+ = 4.33), counts every repeat and weights by semester hours.
6 courses = 3.25 LSAC cumulative GPA
3.25
65 grade points ÷ 20 semester hours · 1 course not counted
Sources: LSAC's Transcript Summarization page (grade table and rules) · GPA formula: LSAC's Key to the Online Academic Summary Report (revised June 29, 2018)Last verified Oct 19, 2026
LSAC counts every attempt at a repeated course and turns any failing grade into 0.00, including a Fail in a pass/fail course. A Pass is left out. A WF (withdrawal while failing; LSAC's Withdraw/Fail) counts as 0.00 unless your school gives it no penalty.
A WF your school stopped counting only because you retook the course, or under a grade-forgiveness policy, still counts as 0.00: pick “WF (counted as F)”. A W is left out only when your school gives it no penalty.
AP credit and courses taken after your first bachelor's degree are not part of the LSAC GPA.
LSAC may convert a school's numeric or three-passing-grade system differently from this table; its Interpretive Guide lists each school.

Good to know
- A Fail in a pass/fail course counts: yes. Of the 3 GPA systems on this site that list it, only LSAC GPA says yes.
- Points for an A-: 3.67. Of the 3 GPA systems on this site that list it, LSAC GPA has the lowest; next is AMCAS GPA and CASPA GPA at 3.7.
- Repeated courses: Every attempt counts, the same as AMCAS GPA and CASPA GPA.
- LSAC counts every attempt at a repeated course, even when your school replaced the old grade, as long as the transcript shows the grade and units. A line drawn through a grade on the transcript does not remove it.
- From the 2027–2028 cycle, LSAC leaves college courses taken in high school, including dual enrollment, out of the GPA. For the 2026–2027 cycle they still count, so check which cycle you are applying in.
Common questions
How does LSAC calculate GPA?
LSAC multiplies each course's grade value (A+ 4.33 down to F 0.00) by its credit hours, adds the results and divides by the credit hours attempted. Every attempt of a repeated course counts, a Pass is left out and any failing grade counts as 0.00.
How does LSAC treat an A+?
LSAC converts an A+ to 4.33, above the 4.00 for an A, so an LSAC GPA can go above 4.
Does LSAC count repeated courses?
Yes. LSAC counts the grades and credits for every attempt of a repeated course, as long as the transcript shows the grade and units.
Does a pass/fail course affect my LSAC GPA?
A Pass is left out, but LSAC turns a Fail, No Credit or other failing grade into 0.00 and counts it.
Do dual-enrollment courses count in the LSAC GPA?
For the 2026–2027 cycle, college courses taken in high school count. From the 2027–2028 cycle, LSAC leaves them out.
How does LSAC convert quarter hours?
LSAC multiplies quarter hours by 0.67 to get semester hours, and counts trimester hours as semester hours.

LSAC GPA conversion, step by step
LSAC converts each graded undergraduate course to its 4.0 scale (where an A+ is 4.33), multiplies by the semester hours, adds everything up and divides by the hours attempted. Every attempt of a repeated course counts, and any failing grade is 0.00.
LSAC GPA = sum of (LSAC grade value × semester hours) ÷ total semester hours attempted
- Convert each grade with LSAC's table: A+ 4.33, A 4.00, A- 3.67, B+ 3.33, B 3.00, B- 2.67 … D- 0.67, F 0.00.
- Leave out Pass grades, AP credit, anything after your first bachelor's degree, and a W, WF or Incomplete your school gives no penalty (LSAC's word: nonpunitive). A WF forgiven only by a retake or grade forgiveness still counts.
- Count any failing grade as 0.00, including a Fail in a pass/fail course, and count every attempt of a repeated course.
- Turn quarter hours into semester hours (× 0.67).
- Multiply each grade value by its hours, add them up and divide by the total hours.
Example using LSAC's conversion table
- Political Science, A+, 3 hours: 4.33 × 3 = 12.99
- Calculus, B-, 4 hours: 2.67 × 4 = 10.68
- Spanish, Pass (pass/fail), 3 hours: left out
- (12.99 + 10.68) ÷ 7 = 3.3814
LSAC GPA = 3.38 (shown to two decimals)

What this CAS GPA calculator doesn't account for
- Your school's own conversion in LSAC's Interpretive Guide (numeric or three-passing-grade systems).
- The year-by-year and per-college GPAs on the Credential Assembly Service (CAS) report LSAC sends to law schools: this gives one cumulative GPA.
- Whether your school gives a WF or an Incomplete a penalty (counts it like a failing grade): you pick that on each row.
- A W your school does penalize: LSAC leaves a W out only when the school gives it no penalty and publishes no value for one it does, so this calculator leaves every W out.
