CASPA GPA Calculator
This CASPA GPA calculator gives physician assistant (PA) school applicants their overall, science and BCP (biology, chemistry, physics) GPAs, repeats included.
6 courses = 3.31 CASPA overall GPA
3.31
69.5 grade points ÷ 21 semester hours
Source: CASPA Applicant Help CenterLast verified Oct 19, 2026
CASPA counts every attempt at a repeated course, whatever your school's forgiveness or grade-replacement policy, and counts a WF (withdrawal while failing) as an F.
Math and statistics count in CASPA's non-science GPA. BCP is biology/zoology, the three chemistry categories and physics.
Credits listed as units (1.0, 0.5) must first be converted with your school's ratio.

Good to know
- A WF always counts as an F: yes. Of the 3 GPA systems on this site that list it, only CASPA GPA says yes.
- Repeated courses: Every attempt counts, the same as AMCAS GPA and LSAC GPA.
- CASPA puts math in the non-science GPA. Calculus and statistics raise or lower your non-science GPA, not your science GPA, while chemistry, biology and physics feed both the science and BCP GPAs.
- A WF counts as an F in every CASPA GPA, and CASPA ignores grade forgiveness and replacement. Enter every attempt of a repeated course with its full credits and grade.
Common questions
How does CASPA calculate GPA?
CASPA converts each grade to its numeric value, multiplies by the attempted credits to get quality points, and divides total quality points by total attempted credits. In CASPA's own example, 36 quality points over 17 credits is 2.12.
Does math count in the CASPA science GPA?
No. CASPA puts mathematics in the non-science GPA; the science GPA uses biology/zoology, the chemistry categories, physics and other sciences.
How does CASPA treat a WF?
CASPA counts a WF as an F, worth 0 points, in its GPAs.
Does CASPA count repeated courses?
Yes. CASPA counts every attempt of a repeated course and does not apply your school's grade forgiveness or replacement.
Is an A+ worth more than an A in CASPA?
No. CASPA converts an A+ to an A, worth 4.0.

How CASPA works out your PA school GPA
CASPA gives each letter grade its numeric value (A+ and A = 4.0 down to F = 0; a percentage grade becomes a letter first, as in the grade table), multiplies it by the course's attempted credits to get quality points, then divides total quality points by total attempted credits, overall and for science, non-science and BCP courses.
CASPA GPA = total quality points ÷ total attempted semester hours
- Convert each grade with CASPA's chart: A+ and A 4.0, A- 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0 … D- 0.7, F and WF 0.
- Multiply by the attempted credits (quarter hours × 0.667) to get quality points.
- Leave out non-graded credits such as Pass and AP credit; count every attempt of a repeated course.
- Divide total quality points by total attempted credits, overall and for each subject group.
CASPA's own example
- MATH 1100, A, 4 credits: 4 × 4 = 16
- ENGL 1310, B, 3 credits: 3 × 3 = 9
- GEOL 1610, C, 4 credits: 2 × 4 = 8
- PHED 1000, D, 3 credits: 1 × 3 = 3
- PSCI 1040, F, 3 credits: 0 × 3 = 0
- 36 quality points ÷ 17 credits
GPA = 2.12

What this doesn't account for
- Year-level, post-baccalaureate and graduate GPAs: this gives overall, science, non-science and BCP only.
- Course subject changes CASPA makes during verification.
- Credits in units that need your school's conversion ratio first.
