UC GPA Calculator
This UC GPA calculator uses your A-G grades (UC's required college-prep courses) from 10th and 11th grade, adds up to 8 honors points and cuts at two decimals.
8 grades = 4.12 UC GPA (weighted and capped)
4.12
(27 grade points + 6 honors points) ÷ 8 grades · 1 grade not counted

One row is one semester grade: a yearlong class is two rows, and one college course is one row. Summer after 9th or 10th grade counts as 10th grade; summer after 11th counts as 11th.
Honors types: AP courses, IB Higher Level and designated IB Standard Level courses; college courses that transfer to UC; school honors courses that UC has approved on your school's A-G list.
Honors points: one per honors semester with an A, B or C, up to 8 in all and no more than 4 from 10th grade. Out-of-state students get them for AP and IB courses only.
A college course earns an honors point only with a C or better, not a C- (pick “C- in a college course”); a high school C- counts as a C. UC uses other college plus and minus grades too, but this calculator counts them as plain letters.
A repeat replaces a D or F only if it is finished by the summer after 11th grade; otherwise the D or F stays in.

Good to know
- Repeated courses: A later grade replaces a D or F. Of the 4 GPA systems on this site that list it, only UC GPA has this.
- Only 10th and 11th grade count, plus the summers after 9th, 10th and 11th grade. Ninth-grade classes still meet A-G subject requirements with a C or better, but their grades stay out of the UC GPA.
- Honors points stop at 8 semesters, with no more than 4 from 10th grade. A fifth 10th-grade honors semester adds nothing to the capped GPA, but it still raises the fully weighted GPA that campuses may also look at.
Common questions
How to calculate UC GPA from your semester grades
Give each 10th and 11th grade A-G semester grade its points (A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0), add up to 8 honors points, divide by the number of grades and cut off after two decimals. In UC's example, 81 grade points plus 8 honors points over 24 grades gives 3.70.
Does UC count 9th grade?
No. UC counts A-G (college-preparatory) grades from 10th and 11th grade, including the summers after 9th, 10th and 11th grade; 9th and 12th grade grades are left out.
How many honors points count in the UC GPA?
In the weighted and capped GPA, up to 8 semesters of honors points count, no more than 4 from 10th grade; the fully weighted GPA counts every honors point and the unweighted GPA none. Each honors point is worth 1, and a D or F in an honors course earns none.
Does UC round the GPA?
No. UC cuts the GPA off after two decimals, so 3.875 is reported as 3.87.
Does a validated D or F still count in the UC GPA?
Yes. Validation means a later, higher-level math or language course with a C or better makes up an earlier D or F for UC's subject requirements, but both grades are still used in the GPA.
Do pluses and minuses count in the UC GPA?
Not for high school courses: an A+, A and A- are all 4 points and a B+, B and B- are all 3. UC uses plus and minus grades from college courses when the college gives them.

The UC GPA scale: grade points and honors points
Points for 10th and 11th grade A-G semester grades: a high school plus or minus does not change them. An honors point adds 1 for a UC honors semester with an A, B or C.
| Grade | Grade points | Honors point |
|---|---|---|
| A, A+ or A- | 4.0 | +1 |
| B, B+ or B- | 3.0 | +1 |
| C, C+ or C- | 2.0 | +1 |
| C- in a college course | 2.0 | A college C- earns no honors point |
| D, D+ or D- | 1.0 | No honors point for a D or F |
| F | 0.0 | No honors point for a D or F |
| P, CR or NC | Pass/fail and credit/no credit grades are left out | — |

How the UC weighted GPA is worked out
UC turns each 10th and 11th grade A-G (college-preparatory) semester grade into points (A = 4 down to F = 0, with no pluses or minuses), adds up to 8 honors points (no more than 4 from 10th grade) and divides by the number of grades. It cuts the result after two decimals instead of rounding.
UC GPA = (grade points + honors points, capped at 8) ÷ number of grades
- List every A-G semester grade from 10th and 11th grade (summer after 9th grade counts as 10th).
- Give each grade its points: A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0. A B+ and a B- are both 3.
- Count honors points: 1 for each UC honors semester with an A, B or C; at most 4 from 10th grade and 8 in all.
- Divide (grade points + honors points) by the number of grades, then cut off after two decimals.
- Fully weighted GPA: use every honors point with no limit. Unweighted GPA: use none.
UC's own example (24 grades)
- 15 A's (60) + 6 B's (18) + 1 C (2) + 1 D (1) + 1 F (0) = 81 grade points
- Unweighted: 81 ÷ 24 = 3.375, cut to 3.37
- Honors: 6 semesters in 10th grade (4 count) and 6 in 11th grade (4 count) = 8 points
- Weighted and capped: 89 ÷ 24 = 3.708, cut to 3.70
- Fully weighted: (81 + 12) ÷ 24 = 3.875, cut to 3.87
UC GPA (weighted and capped) = 3.70

What this doesn't account for
- Plus and minus grades from college courses (other than the C- honors rule): they count as plain letters here.
- Whether a class is on your school's A-G list or meets UC's subject requirements: this works out the GPA only.
- Repeat rules: whether a repeat was finished by the summer after 11th grade and is a course UC accepts as a repeat of the original; tick the box only if both are true.
